The letter states, "when the fee was first established, all such charges are generally expected to apply to all students at the campus, irrespective of whether an individual student utilizes a particular service or facility funded by the fee."
There is a distinct difference between an individual student's utilization of a service/fee and the university requiring payment for services/fees not being provided. UC Riverside needs to provide just compensation for the closures of a majority of fees. This is clear robbery from a student body that accept more students on Pell and Cal Grants.
"Faculty members and TAs will hold virtual office hours and implement a range of approaches that foster communication and promote opportunities for student/faculty collaboration that are the heart of the academy...tutoring and supplemental instruction will remain available through the spring quarter."
I commend UC Riverside Administration in ensuring the learning environment that all students are used to is being carried out. We as student realize that our Teaching Assistants are the "heart of the academy". With that being said, UC Riverside Administration should and could do more to support them. the Cost of Living Adjustment deserves to be heard.
UC Riverside's placement of a "Financial Responsibility Agreement" on R'web. Halting students from accessing R'Web until students "Accept" the terms and conditions.
This is clearly wrong. the UC Office of the President has stated, "As a result, there is no expectation on the part of the Office of the President that campuses will change their policies or practices related to the assessment or refund of these [student fee] charges, although you retain the authority to provide exceptions" (UCOP Letter issued March 25th 2020). The charge of all student fees is clearly the full knowledge and action of Chancellor Wilcox. The UC Riverside student body has 42.8% that are low income and 50.3% that receive the Pell Grant (UC Riverside Institutional Research). I believe that UC Riverside Administration needs to answer student questions about this. There needs to be justification to their decisions. I believe that fees should be refunded to alleviate the financial burden on a community that does not come from the wealth of America.
